‘A computer without the Internet is useless’
Justin Kloczko on “coping with addiction,” proving what we all know in America, but sometimes forget—Internet is serious business:
It was a brutal month, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. If you can do it, then good for you. But extended periods of time without the Internet will leave a man feeling stupid and alone. Friends asked if I was going to honor that event confirmation on Facebook to my friend’s going away party. I was in the dark more ways than one. I tried to play it off like I knew what was going on when I really didn’t. To make matters worse, I decided to stop drinking during that same month. It was the one of the worst periods of my life. I couldn’t sleep, and when I woke up, I had way too much time on my hands. A computer without the Internet is useless.
I read before going to sleep every night. On my iPod Touch. I read by iPod Touch-light. Over wi-fi. And when the wi-fi occasionally cuts out, as it is wont to do in certain parts of the house when it feels like it, I look at the device and think: “without headphones or wi-fi you are nothing but a very expensive calculator-address book-world clock-note book.”
“PS: (I love you).”
Hehe, just kidding. Heh… heh.
Sounds like you really need Instapaper Pro on that iPod Touch, so the WiFi dropping doesn’t affect you, as it caches everything you read. I use it like crazy on my iPhone. One of my favorite apps.
